In 2017, when Pay Our Interns (POI) was founded, 90 percent of Congressional offices did not offer paid internships. After two years of research-based direct advocacy, and elevating the voices of interns, POI successfully worked with a bipartisan group of legislators to appropriate $14 million of dedicated funding for intern compensation. The search for summer 2019 Congressional internships has started and office deadlines vary, meaning the time to spread awareness is now.
“Reflect Us,” is a Public Service Announcement (PSA) campaign that is designed to inform young people about the new funding for paid Capitol Hill internships, with the goal of attracting a more diverse group of applicants. Our hope is that we will begin to see each intern class become more reflective of society’s economic, racial and ethnic diversity, just like our 116th Congress.
